So You Want To Start A Blog…

So something kind of cool has started happening in my DM’s… I get asked for photography advice. When I first started my blog I would HARASS some of my favorite creators with questions about editing software, camera recommendations, tools, etc. and luckily for me, they were all incredibly kind and generous with their time and gave me all the answers I was searching for. And now, I am the one getting the questions which is extremely flattering!. So I thought I would put my blogging/beginner photography tools all in one place for anyone who is interested in entering the blogging space!

Sony Alpha a6400

After a butt ton of research and bombarding my favorite creators for recommendations, I finally landed on this camera. The general consensus was that it is user friendly enough for a beginner, but will deliver professional results if used correctly. I also opted for a macro 18mm-135mm lens for my particular style of photography. I like to capture close up, detailed shots of products and textures, and this body and lens is ideal for that purpose. If you are planning on shooting things like groups of people or interior spaces, I would not recommend this particular camera for that use. The price tag is terrifying, but investing in a professional camera has been a game changer for my freelance work. Brands appreciate and will pay for high quality content produced with high quality equipment.

Leatherology Camera Strap

This strap has saved my ass on countless occasions. If my camera was not securely attached to my neck via this strap, my camera would have been in bits and pieces by now and I would have gone on a killing spree. But luckily for all of humanity, we good and my camera is fully in tact thanks to this leather strap from Leatherology. It was a pretty affordable price given the quality, it comes in tons of colors and has a monogramming option!

Camera/Iphone Tripod

Not all tripods are created equally. It took some trial and error to find my perfect tripod and this one from Ubeesize is the best I have found. It is extremely easy to adjust and is by far the most compact. It comes with a travel case (great for storing away safely and for on the go) and also includes a phone attachment.

iPhone Holder

I know what your’re thinking, two tripods are excessive. But this iPhone holder serves a very specific purpose. There are times when I need the phone to be angled straight down (specifically for cooking and recipe videos) and a normal tripod will show the legs at that angle. The design of this holder allows you to position the phone is such a way where you only get what you want in the shot. It also folds up to be very compact and easy to store away!

Memory Card Reader

A cool perk about the Sony Alpha a6400 is that you can transfer photos from the camera directly to your phone using an app. The app is pretty finicky most of the time so I picked up this memory card reader and it has been a game changer! You simply turn off your camera, remove the memory card, insert it into the slot and plug it into your iPhone. The photos then are sent to your photo app where you select exactly which photos you’d like to import.
