Things That Give Me Serotonin: June Edition
Another month in the can, but you know what that means!! A monthly round-up of the products, books, and thingys that brought me joy. SPOILER ALERT: It was a book-heavy month!
Malibu Rising
I’ve been hearing people rave about this book/author so I thought I’d give it a go and I am really glad I did. It tells the story of the Riva family, 4 young attractive children of a Hollywood heartthrob. It follows their childhood and the toxic relationship between their parents. The eldest Riva hosts an annual beach bash that has quickly become the party of the year for Hollywood elite. The book goes back and forth between the lead-up to the party, and the actual party that goes off the rails. I really enjoyed it, it’s fast-paced and a prefect “beach read”.
Perfect Nap Candle
This candle lives up to it’s name. The combination of relaxing notes sets you up for the perfect mid day, forget what year it is nap. Still Nourish kindly sent me this candle to try out and after burning a few times, I promptly ordered a back up. It smells DIVINE. It’s super light, yet warm and musky and I am OBSESSED with the wood wick. The crackling sound makes me feel like there is a wood burning fire place in my bedroom, for the ultimate cozy vibes!
Reflekt Daily Exfoliating Face Wash
I have been using the same face wash for a few years now and I loved it, but my only complaint was the rosy scent. I had been eyeing the Reflekt face wash on Violet Grey to try out, so when they reached out to send it to me, I jumped on it! I have been using this face was since early May and I can officially confirm that is 100% #homebodyapproved. I have already used up the bottle they sent, and purchased another. It leaves my skin feeling clean, but still hydrated. The exfoliating jojoba beads are gentle enough to use daily, while still delivering results. It is packed with skin-loving ingredients like hyaluronic acid, jojoba esters, vegetable collagen, and vitamin B. Best of all, it smells great without any added synthetic fragrance. It just has a light, clean, herbal-ish scent. I truly have only good things to say about this product. It’s a 10/10 for me!
Cuyana Travel Case Set
This past month, I finally got to put my new toiletry cases from Cuyana to good use and I LOVE THEM. The two sizes are perfect for all of my toiletries and it’s super easy to clean if there is any spillage. If you’re planning on globe- trotting now that the world is opening up, and are looking for travel bags, this is it!!
Victoria Beckham Lip Tint in Amour
The VBB Bitten lip tint is my all time favorite lip product. I have the shade Bisou and use it non-stop. So when they released their new shade Amour, I snagged it right away. The color is perfection, its a super sheer, peachy brownish nude that would look good on anyone thanks to its sheer yet build-able formula.
ENUF CBD Balm
If you have a demonic uterus that rages war on your insides every 3 weeks, you need this. I have always struggled with HORRID period cramps and honestly nothing worked for me. I tried prescriptions, over the counter medicine, heating pads, cooling pads, essential oils, literally everything and nothing made a difference until this. You guys…..the CBD in this is no joke. It tackles pain like nothing else I have ever tried. I use this for all of my pain relief needs, not just period-related. ENUF is a badass woman-owned business that is working tirelessly to change the cannabis industry. Partial proceeds from sales go to period poverty and cannabis injustice related organizations. If you want to try it out for yourself, use code HOMEBODY20 for 20% off. I don’t receive any commission, it’s solely a gift from my friends at ENUF to you!
The Invisible Life of Addie Larue
This is a very different style of writing for me but it is the best book I have read this year. It starts in the 1700’s with a fiercely independent French woman named Adeline Larue who is desperately trying to get out of her arranged marriage. She is finally approached by the devil on the night of her wedding and her offers her a deal. The deal is that she can live with complete freedom for as long as she chooses, and once she is tired of living, she must give him her soul. The catch is, no one will ever remember her. It was an amazing read and I cannot shut up about it!
The Good Sister
Another quick and easy beach read I enjoyed from the month was The Good Sister by Sally Hepworth. It tells the story of twin sisters, Fern and Rose. From the outside, Fern is free-spirited, quirky, and socially awkward, while Rose is polished, uptight, and overly protective. The two sisters have been keeping a secret to protect Fern. When Fern sees she can do Rose a massive favor to pay back Rose for years of protection, Fern sets out on a mission to make it happen.
Lunya Shorts
If you’re anything like me, you HATE getting dressed in the summertime. All I want to wear are cozy sweaters and matching sweat sets. After weeks of searching “summer sweats that I won’t sweat my balls off in,” I came across these shorts from Lunya. These are shorts for people who hate shorts. They’re unbelievably comfortable, easy to wash, and cute af.
